TOBACCO SHORTAGE

LACK OF FEMALE WORKERS P.A. WELLINGTON, July 11 The shortage of manufactured tobacco and cigarettes in the Dominion has been solely due to insufficient fem,ale labour' in tile tobacco factories.’’ the Minister of Supply, Hon. D. G. Sullivan said in reply to an urgent question asked in the House to-day by .Mr. G'. F. Sim (Nat Rotorua) bn behalf of himself and Mr. W. Sullivan (Nat. Bay of Plenty). The Minister added that there had not been a pronounced shortage of male workers, so that increased availaoility of manpower did not affect the position. Following a recent reduction in certain munition works, the number of women had been transierred to the tobacco industry, and mis should lead to a substantial rise in production.
