CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY

COMMITTEE MEETING. The first .meeting of the committee ' elected at last : Sunday’s public meeting to take steps towards the formation of a Co-operative Society in Greymouth was held last evening. Mr. ,W. Bell (President of the A.S.R.S.) was elected' first F'resident and Mr. J. Neilson, who was Secretary of the Runanga Co-operative Society from 1906 to 1916, was appointed Secretary. Arrangements were made for a public meeting to be held in Cobden on Sunday next. It was decided'that the district be zoned and that members of the committee commence canvassing shortly. It was reported that stores had been offered to the Society for purchase. Trading capital was fixed at £5 per member, and it was decided that the committee accept further capital at a small rate of interest. It was reported that Mrs. Linda Bennett, 8.A., of Palmerston North, would visit the district shortly and would probably address a public meeting at Greymouth.
