HIGH PRICES IN ENGLAND LONDON, July 9 The “Daily Express” stated; Sir Eric Ohlson refused an offer of £150,000 for the Derby winner Dante. It was earlier reported that Oh'lson had declined £90,000 for Dante. A world- record for a single service by a thoroughbred stallion was established at Newmarket, when a Middleham racehorse trainer, F. Armstrong, on behalf of the Gaekwar of Baroda, secured a 1946 service at 4,600 guineas to Nearco, sire of Dante. Nearco won the Grand Prix de Paris in 1938, and has been valued at £120,000. The previous record lor a single service was 1,800 guineas last year for the national stud champion!, ’Big Game. The Gaekwar of Baroda who races extensively in England was a big buyer at the Newmarket blodstock sa'les. His purchases inclulded Oriens, a three-year-old filly by Hyperion from Believa, for 4,500 guineas; a three-year-old filly by Bois Roussel from Thrustaway, 1,850 guineas; a two-year-old colt, Ambush, by Bois Roussel from Commotion, 2,100 guineas. Other sales during the day inducted the three-year blds Caperace and Loretto at 3,700 and 2,800 guineas respectively. GRAND PRIX. PARIS, July, B.' The colt Caracalla won the first post-war Grand Prix before a huge crowd at Longchamps. Chanteur was •second and Mistral third. The race was worth £6OOO, which was the highest for years.
