WATAROA NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent] Mr Gaffney, Canterbury Freezing Works, was a visitor to the district during the week, buying stock on behalf of his firm. The many friends of Mr H. Adamson heard with sincere regret of his death, which took place at Kumara a few days ago. The late Mr Adamson was a prominent stock raiser in Lower Wataroa, and his cattle always brought big prices at Addington. He saw service in the 1914-18 war, and took part in. the occupation of Cologne. The local footballers are at present putting the ground in order for the forthcoming big games. An enjoyable dance was held in the Wataroa Hall on Saturday evening, when there was a good attendance. The Monte Carlo was won by Miss Mary; Williams (Weheka) and Mr K. Mcßride, while Mrs Dowling and Mr G. Nolan annexed the lucky spot. A guessing competition was won by Mr J. Mulvaney. Mr Joe HcKenzie had charge of the floor, and music was provided by Mrs Lumsden, Mrs M. McBride, Messrs C. Donnelly, R. Stevens and Arnold Nolan. The heavy! rain during the past few days has proved beneficial to stock.
