An Allied communique stated: The first Allied link-up since the landings on the oil island of Borneo may soon materialse, according to battle reports from Borneo, which put Australian forward units striking south from the cantured oil field of Seria. within 25 miles of other Australian troops in the northern oil -field area of Sarawak. Australian forces are striking new blows against Japan’s dwindling oil supplies in Borneo. They are making new advances in the northern Sarawak oil fields, while American bomber fighter squadrons attack the great oil centre of Balik Papan, on the east coast. NEW LANDING. ON TERNATE ISLAND. (Rec. 8.55). NEW YORK, June 26. Tokio radio says: Allied forces invaded Ternate Island, ten miles west of Halmahera Island. Garrison forces at present are engaged in intense fighting with landed enemy; troops.
