The Wanganui Jockey Club j Judicial Committee this afternoon concluded an inquiry into a barriercribbing incident in the Farewell Hack Handicap at the Wanganui winter meeting, and decided to suspend V. J. Sellars for three months, and H. J. Pearce for one month. Sellars, the rider of Tintern, the eventual winner, drew No. IS at the barrier and Pearce, the rider of Cardonian drew No. 2, but their positions were exchanged at the barrier. Racing Notes Progressing When lie ran third in the First Trial Handicap at Te Aroha last month Chaka gave the impression that he would be improved by the outing. That such is the case, he proved by keeping the well performed Broiedame busy in a< run over fourfurlongs at Ellerslie on a recent morning. A three year old by Dink from Llanore, Chaka is to have his next outing at Hastings next Saturday, when a reproduction of his recent track efforts would point to his having and excellent chance in the maiden event.

Additions to Team The Templeton trainer W. R. Butt has taken over Loyal King and Margaret Hall, which have just come back after a spell. Loyal King has not displayed any form for some time, but Butt seems to do well with the Grattan Loyal breed, though no doubt this gelding will test his ingenuity to the fullest extent. Margaret Hall should be a bright proposition for the new season, as the Dillon Hall mare in addition to having a fine turn of speed, stays on particularly well. Atawhero is also to be prepared by Butt for the new season’s racing. The Red Shadow gelding has only won one race, but has been in the minor money on several occasions.

Over Country On a recent morning at Ellerslie, Sir Ringman treated track watchers to a fine display of fencing when sent on a round of the steeplechase country. Piloted by M. Ritchie he took every fence in his stride. His exhibition over the hill being particularly pleasing. All going well, S'ir Ringman will probably be on hand for the Grand National meeting at Riccarton, and is likely to take on the big steeplechase. His stable mate, Spirillum, was also schooled over six flights of hurdles, jumping fast and clean. Spirillum is to accompany Sir Ringman on the Riccarton trip, his mission being the Grand National Hurdles. In his lr« five starts, Spirillum; recorded two wins and three placings, his successes being in hurdle events. Finished Well

The Nightly gelding, Patu Ra, drew attention'to his future prospects over fences, by a fine finishing run into fourth place in the Ngata Hurdles at the Manawatu Meeting won by Mary Jo. Patu Ra was a long way back in the early stages, and had he been kept closer to the leaders over the first mile, it seems he myst have won. Schooled Evidently it is intended to try and make a jumper out of Rara Avis, as he has been given, some schooling over the pony hurdles at Ellerslie, and for a novice the Bronze Eagle gelding performed creditably. Rara Avis is right at home when the ground is soft, and he ran a great race to get fourth in the Visitors Handicap at the Auckland winter meeeting on June 4. He is to race at Hastings on Saturday, after which a decision will be made regarding a trip to Trentham, where he has previously been in the money. Failed to Stay Back down to favouritism in tne First Ruahine Hack at the Manawatu meeting last Saturday, Black Beret found the task of carrying 10 stone too much for him. He was one of the leaders to the straight, where he retired, eventually finishing about ninth. In all probability Black Beret will take on the open class the next time he is produced, and taking a line on his recent Ellerslie form, he should, give a good account of himself when not so heavily burdened. Sterling Performance Foxiana thoroughly deserved his win in the Manawatu Steeplechase. Despite his 12.5 he was always the nearest to the early leader, Winning Tray, and when the pacemaker retired with a mile to run, was left out in front. Coming to. the last fence, Kanui Te Pai ran up to him, but Foxiana made the better jump, and in a great struggle all the way down the running hung on to win by a neck. The Hunting Song gelding was accorded a. fine reception on returning to scale.
