BRITISH AIR LOSSES. LONDON, June 17. RA.F. figures issued to-night show that 22,120 aircraft were lost by all commands In Western Europe, Mediterranean and the Middle East from 1939 to the end of the war in Europe. Sorties flown numbered 1,336,293 of which 676,004 were in the Mediterranean and Middle East, including Dominion and Allied squadrons. , Bomber Command in Western Europe dropped 988,307 tons of bombs —538,688 tons in 1944 alone. LONG FLIGHT. BY R.A.F’. SKYMASTER. LONDON, June 17. The Air Ministry states that the Skymaster of the R.A.F. Transport Command has just made a 9,120 miles flight to Karachi (India) and back in two days eight hours eleven minutes. The actual flying time was 42 hours 23 minutes— twenty-six hours eighty minutes by _ day, anq sixteen hours fifteen minutes by night—the average speed being approximately 215 miles per hour. The crew was doubled, enabling each man to have a spell and a rest in the aircraft. A halt was made each way at Cairo for refuelling, and there was an eight-hours turnround at Karachi. On the outwaid run the Skymaster carried 6,000 lbs. of military supplies, and on the return journey 27 service passengers and 1,755 lbs. of freight.
