By Australians IN FOUR AREAS. (Rpc. 10.10). WASHINGTON, June 18. General MacArthur reports: Units of the Ninth Australian Division m Borneo have reached the coastal village of Tutong. 35 miles south of Brunei Bay. Other Australian units, in an amohibious movement, have landed at Weston, on the eastern shores of Brunei Bav. They are moving inland, against negligible opposition. On Labuan Island the airfield is now operating. Our forces on Tarakan Island, in north-east Borneo, have overcome two of the remaining enemy, strongpoints in the centre of the island, capturing quantities of ammunition. Bombers and fighters have supported our ground operations in northern Borneo, and dropped more than one hundred tons of bombs on enemy defences on Balik Papan. Australian ground forces in New Guinea have captured a strong enemy position in hills to the southward of Wewak. U.S. AIR RAIDS ROUND CHINA SEA. (Rec. 9.50). WASHINGTON, June 18. General MacArthur reports: In Formosa raids our fighter-escorted heavy bombers dropped 340 tons on Takao, and an east coast port, Taito. Large fires were started in all targets. Patrol planes bombed Taihoqu and Mako, destroying two fuel tanks. Reconnaissance units at night time harassed Shanghai and Canton, and in day time attacked enemy facilities in Indo-China. in Hainan, and northward of Hong Kong. Enemy barracks on Weichow Island were set on fire, and motor trucks and freight cars were wrecked.
