DISPUTE SETTLED. MINERS’ POLICY UPHELD. I Our Own Correspondent] Hon. A. McLagan, along with Mr G. Duggan. (Chief Government Inspector of Mines). Mr E. Hunter (Govt. Mines Inspector), and Mr T. Frendiville (Miners’ National Check Inspector), accompanied by officials of the State Mines Department and or the State Miners’ Union, visited the Strongman colliery yesterday to deal with the dispute regarding the filling away of loose coal lying in old workings.’ After inspecting the places in dispute, the following agreement was arrived at: — Where it is possibe to fill all loose coal this shall be done. Where it is not practicable to fill away all loose coal, a lane, about six feet wide, shall be filled out, and up the centre of each bord; the overhanging sides to be spragged; two men shall patrol old workings in question twice a week; all level places shall he drawn not more than ten feet six inches wide; all places not required for ventilation purposes shall,' when finished, have the timber withdrawn and the roof arched, provided that. this, shall not be done where the coal is of such a nature that the sides of the place would burst off; the filling out of the loose coal shall commence immediately; the primary selection of places to be agreed upon between the management and the local Check Inspectors. At a mass meeting of the Union, held in the Miners’ Hall last evening, officials of the National and local Miners’ organisations placed the terms of the agreement before the miners, and it was unanimously resolved to accept the terms. Both Liverpool and Strongman mines will resume normal production to-day.
