HOKITIKA, May 14 1 Recently the New Zealand Union of Industrial Employers invited bushmen throughout the Dominion to write a treatise on bush work. It was specified that the treatise should be written with a view to assisting in the rehabilitation of servicemen, a special award to be made for the best paper submitted, with a cash prize of £2O. Mr. William Barnard, of Hokitika, who wrote a paper, has by the judges, been officially notified that his paper is considered to be the best one, and he has received the prize of £2O. The Union of Employers have reserved the right to retain the paper. Mr. Barnard is well known on the West Coast, having worked as a bushman for tne greater part of his life. His paper was based on practical experience m logging for sawmills. He is to be congratulated on his success. The Gael arrived at Okuru 911 Sunday, and was to sail for Hokitika this afternoon. Ihe lake and creek are an ideal area for a sanctuary. The Marist Brothers Sports Organisation of Greymouth is bringing a team of amateur boxers to Hokitika to-morrow (Tuesday) evening wnen a series of contests will be held in the Princess Theatre. The visiting boxers will comprise some of the finest West Coast amateurs, and local lads will also take part, while George Muir and Norman Ross will give a professional exhibition bout. The tournament is being, held iim an effort to revive interest in the sport .here. Hokitika once boasted a live ' Boxing Association, and the amateur tournaments here equalled those in other parts of the country, Hokitika lads gaining high honours, -the effort Cf the® Greymouth Organisation to revive the sport in Hokitika is to be highly commended.
