GREY HARBOUR BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING HELD. Mi - J. Mulcare presided over the monthly meeting of the Greymouth Harbour Board, held last evening. Also present were Hon. J. Ryall, Messrs F. Williams, W. E. J. Steer, J. B. Kent, J'. J. Devine, E. W. Heenan, M. Wallace, and W. Clayton, also the Secretary (Mr W. B. Gilbert), and the Engineer (Mr D. S. Kennedy,) . The Treasury Department wrote remitting wharfages £842 Is 7d, wharfages State coal January £4Ol Os 3d, February £792 Os 2d, royalties £361 3s lOd, rent £7 4s, hire plant P.W.D. £1 Bs. . . The Director, Alluvial Mining Equipment, Ltd., advised that orders had been placed for dredge buckets and bucket links. The Secretary reported that arrangements for a letter of credit for the purchase of these had been completed. The Commissioner of Supply, Wellington, advised that no definite word had been received as to when an order for dredge hopper chain would be executed. — Left to the officers to take any steps considered necessary to expedite the matter. The Harbourmaster (Captain H. Moar) advised that the dredge had arrived at Wellington on April 30, and gone on the slip on May 2. The resignation from the Board’s staff of Mr C. Richardson was received and accepted, and it was decided to write expressing appreciation of his services over a period of 33 years, and to grant him three months’ leave of absence. The Railways Department wrote regarding the use of railway, timber waggon stanchions by watersiders in holds of ships when shipping timber, and the consequent loss of same.—The letter was formally received, the Chairman stating that the matter did not concern the Board. Mr D. Jensen, Wellington, forwarded a letter and a plan regarding clearing the Grey bar. Mr S'. A. A. Fry, United Brunner Coal Mines, Ltd., advised that the company intended to deal with the matter of vending the Brunner lease as soon as a mandate was obtained from the shareholders. —It was decided that unless six months’ rent was paid forthwith the Board would recommend the cancellation of the lease.

W. F. Lowe applied for license for a sea beach claim covering two acres, half a mile south of Point Elizabeth; and Mr T. Morley., applied for a license for a beach claim covering 6i acres,

Section 1, Block IX, Waiwhero S.D.— It was decided to offer no objection. Consent was granted to the following transfers; Sec. 145, Res. 1427, Blaketown, D. G. Green to R. F. Heslop; S'ec. 109, Res. 1427, Blaketown, Peter Sinclair to James W. Webber; Pt. Sec. 114, Res. 1427, Blaketown, Edward Stewart to Donald Miller. The Finance Committee reported that receipts since the last meeting had totalled £2526 ss' Id, made.up as follows: ’Shipping dues £463 12s 6d; royalties £361 3s lOd; rents £B5 13s 4d; hire and sale of plant £l7 14s lid; accd. compensation £22 2s lOd; wharfasres £1575 17s? Bd. ’ The Harbour fund had a debit balance of £8866 16s. The payment of accounts amounting to £2483 7s lOd had been recommended. The report, was adopted It was decided to hold the annual meeting on June 6.
