Dr I Thompson, formerly, in practice here, who returned recently from overseas service, is visiting West port. . Mrs. W. H. Woodcock, has been advised that her two sons, Clem and Bert, who had been prisoners ol wai in Germany for the past three and a-half years, are now safe and well in England. The Old Time Dance Committee has donated the proceeds, amounting to £l5, of the recent victory dance to the Red Cross Society. The qualifying round for the Jubilee Cup was played by members of the Westport- Golf Club on Saturday. After rain which fell until Shortly after .mid-day, the .-'course was heavy and many players did not complete the course. Those to qualify were:—J. Caldwell 71 net, J Brown 72, A. Pain 75, C. Petersen 75, R. Bovs 76, J. Queripel 8 77, J. Jones 78, C. Schadick 78, R. Falconer 80, E. Fair 82, W. Farr 82, A. Burt, 82, S'. Playsted 84, C. Walker 84, A. Davies 87, H. Greenwood 87. The ladies’ club fixture for the week-end was cancelled owing to the state of the weather. Results of Rugby football matches played during the week-end were:— Senior: Star 11, Rangers 3, N_gakawau 11, Westport 3. Junior: Old Boys 3, Pirates 3; Rovers 5, Star 3. The Westport Competition Society’s third annual festival opened this afternoon when the Mayor, Mr. J M. Robertson, welcomed the competitors and congratulated the Society on the good work it was doing in fostering the musical, dancing and elocution talent in the youngei generation. Junior vocal, dancing, elocution and pianoforte classes and coinet solo were held during the afternoon, while the evening session included senior classes and cornet solos.
