AMERICAN DRIVES

On Mindanao Island (Rec. 5.5) May 13 Driving south along the central highway on Mindanao Island, Americans captured the Delmonte aerodrome, says General MacArthur’s communique to-day. The Thirtyfirst Division, moving from the south has been making steady gains against moderate resistance. The Twentyfourth Division in the Davao area scored advances in the Talomo River sector. The Sixth Army on Luzon Island has been keeping up steady pressure in the Balete Pass sector. Our aircraft have continued the destruction of enemy industry: in Formosa, dropping 260 tons of bombs on Toshein factories and installations and on other cities in the south-wes-tern coastal plain. Long range patrols sank eleven freighters and five coasters, and one patrol. craft and many barges in sweeps over the China Sea, Hainan, and in coastal sectors from Malaya to Shanghai.
