N.Z. LIVESTOCK FOR LIBERATED COUNTRIES P.A. AUCKLAND, April 25 Mr. G. N. Briggs an /Agricultural Officer of U.N.R.R.A. in Sydney, nas arrived at Auckland by flying noat. He is here at the invitation of the New Zealand Government, for Lie purpose of investigating possibilities of obtaining supplies, principally ol livestock and agricultural machinery, for liberated areas of Europe. He will spend about two weeks inspecting the country’s resources in order to prepare a report for the organisation. Although requirements ot Euope are the first consideration Mr. Briggs will also endeavour obrain an esaimate of what New Zealand will be able to supply to China after its liberation. Before he left Sydney, he said, advice was received from Washington indicating- that the U.N.R.RA.’s activities in Europe were increasing considerably, and already 200 teams of U.N.R.R.A. workers, including a great number of specialists, had moved in Europe. Livestock torbreeding purposes was one or tne most urgent requirements m the m>erated areas, and he was looking foi dairy cows, sheep, pigs, and horses. Some 7,000 daiy cows were 'y ant <T immediately, but he could not scy how many would be provided by n Zealand.
