REEFTON NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent] REEFTON, April 21 The annual Anzac Day parade and ceremonv will be held this year at 11 a.m. at the Princess Theatre. Major G. G. M. Mitchell, M.M., of Greymouth, will give the address and the singing will be led by the Inangahua Silver Band, after which the parade will assemble and march to the Cenotaph, where wreaths will be laid, the Roll of Honour called and the Last Post and Reveille sounded. The railway, station was crowded last evening when Private N. Christie Bdr H. F. McMahon, and Trooper C. R Osmond, who have been overseas for the last four years, were welcomed back. The annual report dealing with the activities of the Reefton Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society, presented at the meeting, stated that an invalid chair had been given to the Hanmer Hospital for the use of disabled soldiers. Out of 50 Red Cross cooking books procured only a few remained ,to be sold. With the assistance of the Junior Red Cross biscuits and cakes had been sent to the Hanmer Hospital in September. During the year Miss McGregor had relinquished her position as organiser for the Junior Red Cross, Mrs. J. Osborne being appointed in her stead. The financial statement .showed a credit balance of £146, with a fixed deposit of *£los. The sum of £ll 10s 9d had been raised for the Polish Relief Fund, and Reef ton’s quota 01 £2l had been paid to Greymouth. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mrs. Yellowlees; . vice-presidents, Mesdames Archer and Humphries, secretary. Mrs. Duff: treasurer, Mrs. Yellowlees: committee, Mesdames Archer, Humphries, Wicken. Potter, Leaning, J. Osborne, Discaciati, A. Wells and Miss Morris. Delegate to Joint Council, Miss Morris; delegate to Grev Centre. Mrs. Discaciati: ,J R.C. secretary, Mrs. J. Osborne As the balance sheet showed a satisfactory credit it was resolved that £5O he sent to the U.N.R.R.A. for the relief of starving children in Europe and £5O for the immediate use of prisoners of war. Re a suggestion that a drive for clean clothes take place for the U.N.R.R.A. it was ascertained that the Lady Galway Guild had this in hand and a collection would shortly take place. In the near future a drive is to be made for new members. Votes of thanks to all those' who had worked for the Society during the year were passed.
