LONDON, April 18. The Vatican radio broadcast an encyclical from the Pope addressed to the episcopacy, throughout the world asking for special prayers for peace and peace organisation during May, the month of the Blessed Mary.. Spain has agreed to the American request to prohibit landings of all German planes on Spanish territory, from mid-night to-night, after the scheduled arrival of the last Lufthansa passenger and freight plane. This means the suspension of all authorised traffic between Germany and the Iberian Peninsula. WASHINGTON, April 18. Mr Stettinius announced a new 325,000,000 dollar lend-lease agree- 1 ment with Belgium, confined to goods needed in the war effort, including food and raw materials. On the contrary Belgium will continue to supply the Allies, with 18,000,000 dollars’ worth of food monthly, and also strategic materials from .the Belgian Congo. Mr Stettinius disclosed that Belgium had contributed 107,000,000 dollars in reverse lend-lease. ' OTTAWA, April 18. Mr McKenzie King, at a. press conference, announced the resignation of five members of the Cabinet, and the appointment of seven new Ministers. Those who resigned are: The Navy Minister, Mr MacDonald; Resources, Mr Crerar; Transport, Mr Michaud; State Secretary, Mr McLarty, and War Services, Mr Lafleche. The new Ministers are: Speaker Glen to be Minister of Mines and Resources; J’oseph Jean, Solicitor-Gen-eral; Lionel Chevrier, Transport; Paul Martin,. Secretary of State; Douglas Abbott, Navy; Doctor J. J. McCann, War Sei’vfces; Laurence Maclaren, National Revenue. , The Cabinet reorganisation arose from the necessity of replacing several Ministers who had announced the intention of retiring from public life, and the need for a full Cabinet before the Fe’deral election on June 11.
CHAPLIN TO PAY FOR HIS CHILD. (Rec. 10.10.) NEW YORK, April 19. A Superior Court Judge, Clarence Kincaid, at Los Angeles, has ordered Charles Chaplin to pay seventy-five dollars per week for the support of Carol Ann Barry until the child reaches the age of eighteen. A jury, by eleven to one, found Chaplin to be the child’s father. Chaplin’s , attorney said he would appeal against the verdict declaring Chaplin the father.
