HESS DEPRESSED
(Rec. 8.30) LONDON, .April 9 The “Daily Express’’ stated: The most depressed man in Britain to-day is Rudolph Hess, Hitler’s former deputy. The war news, is making Hess more and more miserable. After reading newspapers and listening to the 8.8. C. and the German radio news bulletins, which is his chief occupation, he gives way to long fits of silent despair, broken only by occasional outbursts of raving anger. He reacted so violently to news that the Allies had crossed the Rhine, that he became a victim, of advanced melancholia. He refused to take any exercise, and then refused to leave his bed room. He would not even get out of bed to shave, washor dress. Finally, he refused loot! and had to be forcibly fed. He be came so weak that he could hat th J raise his arms. Since then, he has yielded to medical treatment, ano how takes a daily walk under escort. Hess probably knows better than an> person in Britain, what Hitler an other Nazis leaders intend to do when defeat overtakes them, >ut if has kept his knowledge to InmselL. He shows no sign that he realises that he may have to stand tnal as, a war criminal. Possibly his me ‘. h c condition will, save him from the fate that awaits Hitler.
