LIME WORKS
COBDEN PROPOSAL At a meeting of the Westland gress League last evening a numoei of letters were received from organisations written to regarding the proposal to establish a lime works at Cobden. In addition to those ° lSC }} S ' sed at the annual meeting of tnc League the Fox Glacier Faymers Union wrote forwarding a resolution, “In view of the fact of us a^ having an interest in the Ross x i (as farmers) we are not prepared t support or disparage the P r oP°®. ea new. kiln.” The Secretary of rae Housewives’ Union expressed agt ecment with the request made by me farmers that an impartial investigation be carried out to ascertain whether or not the claim by the Koss Company, that they could supply ail the lime needed on me Coast, was well founded, and whether the proposed land development scheme to be carried out by the company was practicable. The Town Clerk, Gieymouth Borough Council, advised that the Council had decided to defer consideration of the matter till the G° v " eminent had given its decision, me secretary, Grey Electric Board advised that the Leagues letter on the matter had merely been pgeeived. Mr. T. Pratt said that the Trader Council was in favour of waiting loi a Government decision on . the mar ter, as experts’ opinions that the scheme for converting waste lands was not practicable. „ ort The chairman gave a short tepo on the committee of inquiry m connection with the proposed lime w o^? s which had sat at Hokffika yesterdc y, saying that Mr. Harker had P seiited the League.
