WESTLAND UNION

Mr T. Mclntosh presided at the weekly meeting of the West Coast [ Rugby Union Executive last evening. A deputation from Westland SubUnion, comprising Messrs E. W. i Heenan (secretary), G. Shaw (Ruatapu), M. Davidson and R>. James (St. Mary’s) was welcomed by the president. Mr Heenan paid a warm tribute on behalf of the Sub-Union ; to Mr A. A. Adams for his excellent services to the game, generally during his long association with it. and expressed regret that he was unable to carry on his active interest in Rugby. The deputation stated that Westland would be fielding three senior teams this season, namely Hokitika, St. Mary’s and Ruatapu. , Matters of general interest, particularly with regard to transport, were discussed at length and the delegation was thanked for its attendance.

The following nominations were received: — „ Senior: Hokitika, St. Mary’s, Ruatapu, Cobden, Blaketown, Celtic and Star-United. . Junior: Cobden, Blaketown and Celtic. , , Third grade: Celtic, Blaketown, Technical, Cobden. Fourth grade: Technical A, and C, and Star-United. .It was decided that the senior Selection Committee should consist of three members, and that Clubs and Sub-Unions be asked to nominate members. . inangahua Sub-Union wrote indicating that three senior teams would be competing in this year’s competition in that district. A preliminary senior competition extending over four Saturdays, prior to opening the main competition was decided on. Fixtures for Saturday are:— Senior: Hokitika v, Ruatapu, at Hokitika; St- Mary’s v. Blaketown, Park No 1, 3 p.m.; Cobden v. Celtic, Park No 2, 3 p.m.; Star-United a bye. Junior: Celtic v. Blaketcwn, Park No 1 1.30;: Cobden a bye. Third grade: Cobden v. Celtic, at Cobden. 1.30; Tech. v. Elaketown, at e Fourth P grade: Tech. B ?v. Tech. C, at Tech 1.30; Tech. Av. Star-United, Park No. 2. 1.30; Blaketown a bye.
