OKARITO NOTES

lOur Own Correspondent] The school picnic from Franz Josef Glacier school was held at Okarito on Saint Patrick’s Day, in beautiful sunshine. A well varied programme of sports was drawn up for the children, who had a most enjoyable day. There were a good number of adults present also. Mr. Norman Friend has sent three trucks of fat. lambs from his beach farm at Okarito to the market. He had lo punt them across the lagoon, and as he is a skilled man with punts and boats, the loading and unloading were carried out without a hitch. This is the first time for ten years that lambs have gone from Okarito. With a good harbour available at present, there is no boat, otherwise the stockj would be shipped. Last week-end saw many visitors to Ckarito from Wataroa and the Glaciers. The cattle sale this week will see a full yarding, many of which are from the far south. As at former sales, hot pies and tea will be available.
