The Rotomanu sports and picnic were held at Rotomanu on Saturday, when there was a large attendance from all parts of the district. Results are as follows: Underhand chop’: H. Win 1, A. Ryan 2, Jim Ryan. 3. Backyard chop: J. Ja’cobs 1, G. Cowan 2, A. Ryan 3. Women’s backyard chop: Miss A. Biard 1, Mrs. Sears 2. Single women's race: Miss Fleming 1, Miss J. Baird 2, Miss B. Sears 3. Single men’s race: H. Jacobs 1, F. Klempel 2, Jim Ryan 3. Married men’s race: H. Win 1, A. Ryan 2, J. Ilton 3. Men’s sawing: A. Ryan and M. Larkin 1, H. Plodgkinson and Win 2. Dual sawing (man and woman): Miss A. Biard and K. Hodgkinson 1, Miss B. Biard and J. S. Ryan 2. Women’s sawing: Miss B. Biard and Mrs. D. Larkin 1, Miss A. Biard and Miss I. Vallance ,2. Men’s long jump: Joe Ryan 1, Jim Ryan 2. Men’s high jump: F. Klempel and A. Ryan tied for first place. Stepping competition: T. Pitman 1. Guessing height of pole: K. Hodgkinson 1. Women’s nail-driv-ing: Mrs. Win 1. Men’s tug-of-war: 1 Single men defeated married men. Catching greasy pig: R. Cowan 1.
