HOKITIKA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent] HOKITIKA, March 18.

A special meeting of the Executive Committee of Hokitika-W estland R.S.A. was held in the Soldiers’ Hall on Friday, to meet the Minister of Rehabilitation, the Hon. C. F. Skinner. Mr W. M. Fraser (President) welcomed the Minister on his first official visit to the district, and the Mayor, Mr Elcock, also extended a welcome to the Minister. Several matters of interest to servicemen in their rehabilitation were introduced by Messrs Fraser, Walters and Gilchrist (Secretary), and in discussion, the explanations of the Minister were much appreciated. Among the matters discussed were the retrospective leave question, the granting of loans for building on mining leases, delays in payment of additional loans and seasonal grants, and re-financing by rehabilitation loans on existing mortgages. Opportunity was taken at the close of the meeting to say farewell to Mr T. N. Mitcnell, who has been a very enthusiastic member of the R.S.A. Executive for five years during his stay in Hokitika, and he was presented with an ornamental fruit dish as a token of esteem.
