TRAFFIC PROBLEMS

N.S.W. SHORTAGES Tramway Men and Tyres (Rec. 9.45) SYDNEY, March 16 The Director General of Manpower stated to-day that his recommendation for the release from the services of one hundred nominated tram, and bus employees had been approved. The Services had estimated that there would be no unavoidable delay. However, the Union officials stated that the release of one hundred men would not solve me transport problems. They added that at least three hundred men would be required to place the industry on an even keel. Anything less would be more than a palliative. The Minister of Transport, Hon. Mr. Ward, announced that the restriction on special sport buses would continue. This would affect, chiefly, country districts. He added that the tyre position was more critical now than at any time during the war. Great difficulty was being experienced in maintaining efficient tyre equipment on the buses and trucks.
