RACING AND TROTTING

Nelson J.C. TOPWEIGHT FAVOURED AGAIN. The principal event on the card, the Nelson Jockey Club Handicap, is likely to see All Night a flrm fancy. However, he does not aet well in really heavy going, so that he may not be the good thing he looks on paper. Better ridden than was the case last week, Royoney will test All Night, while Pedantic who will have the services of the North Island I’ghtweight, J. FI. McFarlane, is another quite capable of upsetting ca'culations. The Reefton-owned Chellow Dene may add further to his good hack record. He may have been a trifle unlucky to go under to Highland Dance at his second appearance last week. Ruling Moment has been a consistent place-getter. A repetition of his previous form will make him at least a good place prospect. After getting- a shocking run all through in his engagement last Saturday, Tikakoura eventually finished fourth. With ordinary luck he should get some of the money in the Motueka Hack.

Wee Peg ran two good races last week and she should again take a hand in the decision of the trotting events. Both Single Choice and Stammel should be improved as a result of recent rac’ng and they may test Wee Peg in the Richmond Trot, while tl?e most dangerous opponents in the Hope Trot would appear to be Flying Chips and Bay Acron.

KILDONIN PROMISING MAIDEN. Probably Elaine Travis will have most friends for the Wyndham . Cup, but her ability over two miles is not yet known. On the score of breeding and her recent displays it would appear that she would be a great prospect if reserved for the concluding event. Nevertheless, the daughter of Trav.’s Axworthy has great brilliance and if the chief event is run to suit her, she may be prominent at the business end. Kildonin who is engaged in the events for unhoppled trotters is said to show more promise than any young trotter seen out in the south. If such is the case he should get a winning turn. The following may be well supported:— Ferry Handicap: Kildorin, Voco Power, Ginger Joe. Trial Handicap: Lauder Girl, Jolly .Biddy, Larry Grattan.
