U.S. DIVORCE MUDDLE
UNIFORMITY PROPOSAL WASHINGTON, March 14. Senator Capper, Republican, Kansa, proposed a constitutional amendment for uniform marriage and divorce laws throughout the nation. Mr. Capper introduced a bill, on which congress could act if constitutional amendment were adopted by the States. He said he would prefer the states to adopt uniform laws, but that was hopeless. He added that a federal law might not curb divorces, but would protect children and their property rights, and also tend to end much confusion Mr. Stettinius, addressing a' meeting of American delegates to the San Francisco Security Conference, said they would be free to pursue their own personal views, and convictions. He aded: “We are all prompted by the same desire to succeed. Therefore I am confident we will be able to work as one team. Mr. McKenzie .King, Canadian Premier, may be invited to serve as chairman of the S'an Francisco conference said the United Press agency. An associated Press Agency correspondent states: “Officials expect the San Francisco may stretch for weeks beyond the months originally, suggested if all the nations represented air their views on world organisation. San Francisco was chosen because it is the most accesssiblo for representatives of Australia, New Zealand, Russia and China and many . South American countries. Mr Stettinius also took into account the domestic political significance of having a world gathering in a' western, rather than an eastern city.
