47 FLYING FORTRESSES. . DESTROYED IN RUSSIA BY GERMAN BOMBERS. (Rec. 11.10). NEW YORK, March 15. Unopposed German bombers destroyed an American-built Russian airfield, and also 47 grounded Flying Fortresses on June 21 last. They made a two-hour attack. For this attack Russians and Americans blamed each other, says a Moscow correspondent of the “Philadelphia Inquirer”, Mr Alexander Kendrick. He says he saw the attack. It was kept a close secret. Russians blamed Americans for permitting German reconnaissance planes to come in on their tail to see where thev landed. The Americans complained that the Russians ha'd not provided adequate ground protection.
