N.S.W. SHALE OIL

(Rec. 11.0). CANBERRA, March 15.' A Parliamentary Committee on Public Works has recommended against the adoption of an American scheme, costing two million nine hundred and four thousand pounds, for the development of shale oil deposits at Baerami, in New South Wales. The report recommends completion of the work of installing and operating The Pilot Renco retort at Glen IT.vis, for a trial under Working conditions. Any further large-scale shale oil developments at Baerami should be delayed until further experience is gained at Glen Davis. It is also recommended that if development at Baerami be undertaken by private enterprise; the Government should give a corripany assistance for a limited period.
