HOKITIKA NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent] HOKITIKA, February 28. Heavy winds from the westward prevailed last night, with rain, and this afternoon there was again a gale. The funeral of the late Mr. William James O’Connor took place at Hokitika Cemetery on Monday afternoon. Requiem Mass was _ celebrated • at St. Mary’s Church in t* ie morning by the Rev. Father J. rmerty, assisted by Rev. Father Keane. The service at the graveside was conducted by Rev. Father Finerty. There, was a large gathering oi friends from all parts of the district and many floral tributes were received. „
At a sitting of the Armed Forces Appeal Board yesterday, sine die adjournments were granted in the following appeals:—Emil Fredrick Rose-, ground engineer, and Thomas Gordon Harris, aeroplane mechanic, of Air Travel Ltd.; Walter Evenden, station operator, Westland Power Ltd.; Samuel Joseph Roberts, service engineer, Renton Ltd.; Wallace Keen, butcher, W. S. Howson; M. Davidson, moulder, Davidson’s Foundry; Arthur James Robinson, plumber, W. H. Shannon; William J. Richards, printer, Hokitika; Joseph R. Whitski, dredge bushman; R. Cooper, baker. W. Eastgate; Richard T. Bone, motor mechanic; Basil Owen, West Coast Lime Coy.; R. T. Goodman, manager and W. J. Phillips, buttermaker, In-ter-Wanganui Dairy Coy.; William E. Whiley, IlaxnjiJler; H. T. Wilkinson, storekeeper. Release from camp of H. W. T. Tainui was recommended and also of A. J. Ellis, to be reviewed after three months. Appeals were dismissed in the cases of P. JHaddock and W. Connolly (InterWanganui Dairy Coy. staff); Jas. R. Bergman (bushman), service postponed one month; A. R. W. Featherston (lorry driver); Ronald J. Nicholson (Westland Dairy Factory), service postponed till Mary 31. John G. Malcolmson, (crane driver), Westland Power Ltd., service postponed one month. An appeal by Rimu Dredging Coy. for W. Hay (accountant), was adjourned for a month, while another man is being trained for the position; also an appeal by W. L. Dwan (tobacconist);, while a three months’ adjournment was granted on an appeal by H. A. Thompson Lid. for G. Neilsen. Rimu Dredging Goy. withdrew an appeal for J. Olsen (welder).
