WAR IMPLEMENTS

CANADIAN CONTRIBUTION. MONTREAL, Feb. 23. General McNaughton _ Canadian Defence Minister, addressing the Engineering Institute here, disclosed that Canadian scientists began development of radar in 1938. Other products of Canadian science were long-burning time fuses of remarkable accuracy for ranging armour piercing shells for anti-tank guns, which gave an extra margin of performance to penetrate new heavilyarmoured German tanks and selfpropelled guns. Canada developed the production of tungsten, formerly found in quantities only in China and Portugal. Mine clearing methods were perfected. A Canadian design for radio signals sets was generally adopted in Britain and America. Referring to the possibility ol the use of gas, General McNaughton said a Canadian contribution to chemical war was ready.
