Mr. Les Denia, who has been on holiday to the West Coast, has returned to Christchurch.

Miss Daphne McGuire leaves by this evening’s rail-car on a visit to Wellington.

Mr and Mrs T. McGuire leave by to-da.y’s express on a holiday visit to Wellington.

Her Excellency, Lady Newall, left Wellington last evening for Christchurch.—P.A.

Miss Pearl Andrews, of Hastings, who has been visiting Greymouth, leaves by this morning’s express tor Christchurch.

Misses. Mavis Chamberlain and Mina Kerr, of Wellington, will leave this morning for Christchurch, after a brief visit .to Greymouth and Hokitika.

Mr C. H. Crombie, general manager of the Canterbury Steam , Ship Company, whose vessel “Storm,” is at present in Greymouth, has been visiting the West Coast and will return to Christchurch to-day.

Advice that her son, Sgt. Pilot John Hornsby, who has been serving with the R.N.Z.A.F. in England, has been transferred to the Fleet Air Arm, with the rank of Sub-Lieuten-ant, has been received by Mrs A. N. Campbell, of Greymouth.

Constable G. A. Murray, ,who will leave on Tuesday on transfer to Culverden, was met yesterday afternoon by fellow members of the police force in Greymouth and members of the Magistrate’s Court staff. A precentation of a fireside chair was made by Senior Sergeant G. H. L. xdolt.

Mr A. N. Campbell, District Rehabilitation Officer at Greymouth, has received notice of transfer to Timaru and will probably leave next month. Mr F. A. Hutton, Rehabilitation Officer, Blenheim, will succeed him. Mr Campbell has been here for the past ten months.

Latest New Zealand appointments gazetted are: —Temp-Lieut.-Col. J. S. Hanna (temporary staff N.Z. Infantry), posted to the retired list with the rank of Lieut.-Col; Lieut.-Col. C. R. Rout, E.D., Hawke’s Bay Regiment (temporary staff, N.Z. infantry) posted to the retired list. In the 2nd. N. (Middle East), Staff-Colonel (Temp.-Brigadier) R. C. Queree, O. is to be Brigadier; and Colonel (Temp.-Brigadier) C. L. Pleasants, D. 5.0., M.C., E.D., is also to be Brigadier.—P.A.

Mr John Hogg, who has been clerk of the Hobson County Council for 36 years, tendered his resignation the last meeting of the council, states a Press Association message. The council accepted the resignation with regret, and placed on record appreciation of his faithful service over such a long period, and granted him 12 months’ leave of absence on full pay. Mr R. E. Barnes was appointed to fill the vacancy, and Mr V. E. Meaclem, of Ashburton, was appointed assistant county clerk.

The death occurred yesterday morning at Reefton after a long illness, of Mr Albert Edward Wright. He was aged 71. Mr Wright was born in Tasmania but came to New Zealand more than 40 yeras ago. In his youth he was a well-known boxer and athlete. Lately he had been owner of the Merrijigs Hotel, but formerly worked in the mining industry. He was a member of the Reefton M.U.1.0.0.F. Lodge and of the Greymouth L.0.L., No. 50. His wife died two years ago. The funeral will take place to-day at Reefton.
