West Coast Tournament SECTION PLAY ENDS Sectioii play in the West Coast Bowling Centre’s tournament ended yesterday, when the last three rounds of the pairs competition were played. The weather was fine and very warm. Post-section play will begin this morning, and it is expected that the tournament will end today. Plays-off were necessary to decide the winners of three sections in the pairs competition. In Section B F. Chivers and F. A. Hughes (Greymouth) and F. W. Shallcrass and E. R. Moss (Greymouth) each had six wins, the latter team winning the play-off 22—10. In Section D, W. Main and H. Daniel (Riccarton) and M. Yugovich and T. Sinclair (Sydenham) each had six wins, and the play-off was won by Sinclair’s team 22—18. Sinclair was replacing R. J. Watson as skip of this team. B. Johns and T. Quirk (Canterbury) and T. Bowes and W. O’Neill (Ruuanga) each had six wins in Section E, and O’Neill’s team won the playoff 17 —16. H. J. Bond and J. E. Cooper (Barrington) won Section A outright with six wins, while E. Rosewall and A. Warnes (Greymouth) won Section C, being undefeated m all seven games. ■ The following is the draw for today’s play:— FOURS Caulton, Meldrum, Robertson, and Mercer (Greymouth) v. WEST COAST BOWLING GREENS ' (To the Editor) Sir, —As a visitor who took part in the tournmament in which section play is in its final stages, if not completed as I write, let me compliment the officials on the excellence of the arrangement generally. I would also like to congratulate Greymouth and Runanga Clubs upon the excellent state of their greens—more particularly Greymouth and I am informed that the Karoro green is equally good. I have been bowling for over 20 years and I have never met anything faster or more delightful to play on. I speak of course foi bowlers of skill and , experience—a new chum would probably succeed better on Cobden green which, as it is to-dav, is surely a grave yard for the skilled; its inconsistencies and vagaries are so numerous, it is impossible to fathom them. . I played on this green in the 1942 and 1943 seasons when there was nothing appreciably wrong with it.
