Hon, A. McLagan and Mr Bennej r , Under-Secretary of Mines, will arrive in Greymouth on Monday.
L.A.C. P. Griffin, R.N.Z.A.F., who is on furlough from the Pacific area is visiting Greymouth.
Mr. J. Hannigan returned yesterday morning from a visit to Christchurch.

Mr. R. Symes, who has been relieving Goods Foreman. Railways Department, Greymouth, has returned to Christchurch.,
Corporal Kilpatrick R.N.Z.A.F., son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Kilpatrick, Cobden, has returned home after four years service in England.
Mr William Park has been elected a member of the Government Railways Appeal Board, states a Gazette notice issued last night.
Mr A. W. B. McKenzie has been appointed a member of the Earthquake and War Damage Commission, replacing Mr G. E. Branguein, who has resigned.
The engagement is announced of Minnie Ann, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Lowe Te Kinga; to lan Donald, second son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Shaw, Dunedin.
A London cablegram states the Admiralty has announced the appointment of Admiral Sir Geoffery Layjton, to be Commander-in-Chief at Portsmouth, in sucession to Admiral Sir Charles Little.
The retirement is announced of Mr J. F. Dexter, who as “Pilot” of the Sydney Referee, and later of the Sydney Bulletin, was the best known sporting writer in Australia for many years.
Acting Air-Commodore S. Wallingford has been appointed Air Force member for Supply, and member of the Air Board, vice Acting Air-Com-modore F. E. T. Hewlett, states a Gazette notice issued last night.
The death has occurred at Christchurch of Mr. Arthur Wellesley Francis, of Francis Avenue, St. Albans, Christchurch. He was 74 years of age, and a former resident of the West Coast, where he was t prominent follower of bowling, and other sports.
Major-General H. Kippenberger received special congratulations from his Majesty the King, at a recent investure at Buckingham Palace. The King pinned on four decorations namely the C.B. C.8.E., the D.S.O. and Bar.
Mr. and Mrs. J. King, Marsden Road, have received advice that their son, Flight Lieutenant W. R. King, who for the last 3i- years, has been serving with the R.N.Z.A.F. overseas, has received an appointment with the British Overseas Airways Corporation England. FaJL
Mr. E. P. Haslam, an Auckland Rhodes Scholar, who for the past five and a half years has been economist in the London office of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia-, has been transferred to the economist department in the head office Sydney. He is leaving shortly with his wi’fe and two children. For eighteen months Mr Hasiam was acting economic adviser to Mr. Bruce, High Commissioner for Australia.

The resignation of Mr C. Gamer, caretaker of the Greymouth Municipal Buildings, to take effect from April 30, was accepted by the Borough Council at its meeting last evening, the Mayor (Mr F. A. Kitchingham), and Cr. J. B. Kent paying tribute to the good work of Mr and Mrs Garner while they! were in charge of the building. Mr and Mrs Garner will go to live on d’Urville Island.
The death occurred at the Westland Hospital yesterday morning of Mrs. Sarah Jane Howat, for many vears proprietress of the Empire v Hotel Kaneri. She was 60 years of age and a native of Kanieri. She and her husband, Mr. Edward Howat, who survives her, retired some years ago, and have since resided at' Hokitika. She is survived by four sons, J'oseph (R.N.Z.A.F., England), William (prisoner of war, Germany), Gordon and Oswald (N.Z.E.F., Italy), one sister. Mrs. George Morris (Kanieri). and two brothers, William Head (Evans Creek) and George Head (Westport).
