BIG THREE TALKS

FRENCH PROTEST At Being Excluded (Rec. 9.25) LONDON, Feb. 14. The Associated Press correspondent at Paris states: General de Gaulle is reported to have protested to the Ambassadors of Britain, America and Russia about the Crimea conference’s decision to exclude France from the Allied General Staff meetings, and also from forthcoming Foreign Secretaries’ meeting. There are rumours now spreading throughout the French Consultative Assembly to the effect that General de Gaulle was thrown into a bad humour by a nocturnal visit which the three Ambassador’s paid to him on Monday night, to advise him of the conference’s termination and of its decisions. General de Gaulle held an all-night session with the French political leaders, some of whom wanted to reject the Three Power agreement. However, a majority including the Communists, convinced General de_GauHe and his aides that, in view of complete accord of the Big Three, France had no other course but to join them. French Foreign Office quarters expressed satisfaction over France’s inclusion in the San Francisco conference, calling this a beginning of recognition of France’s status as a world power.

The “Daily Express” referring to Reparations, said: Russia may be prepared to accept vast contributions of goods and services in view of her dire immediate needs. Britain could never permit the Germans to provide her with goods and services that could be obtained within her country and Empire, or from her Allies. M. Stalin himself named the conference of the Big Three when at a luncheon after the first meeting he toasted “the success of the Crimea conference.” LOSS OF MR. CHURCHILL’S STAFF LONDON, February 13. Those killed and injured in the plane crash when en route to Yalta were brought ashore at Malta by an American destroyer. The dead were buried on the island. Fifteen lives were lost in the crash.

U.S. Delegate’s Impressions BIG THREE VERY UNITED ROOSEVELT’S DIPLOMACY (Rec. 10.0) WASHINGTON', Feb. 13. Judge Byrnes is the first conference delegate to return from the Crimea. He told a Press conference: President Roosevelt wrote the conference declaration on liberated areas and also the proposal as to voting procedure for a world security organisation. Details of this plan will probably be announced in a few days. Mi- Roosevelt served as chairman of the conferecne.

“Every American should be proud of the President’s role, especially in the discussion of economic and political problems. He showed great skill, tact, patience and good humour. More than once those traits brought decisions.” / Judge Byrnes said: “The atmosphere of the conference was not indicative of a hope of an immediate victory. The military officials did not ignore the possibility of a civilian collapse in Germany, but at the same time, they were contemplating the war as involving more men than ever before.”

“If Hitler relied for success upon a division between the Great Powers, he is doomed as never before. I was tremendously impressed by the comradeship and genuine affection shown by the three leaders.” Judge Byrnes declared that no significance attached to the place or the date of the San Francisco conference.

GERMAN DENUNCIATION. LONDON, February 13. The German reaction to publication of Yalta conference decisions was summed up in the following German News Agency statement: “News of the Yalta plan is passing through Germany like a cry of alarm.” The News Agency headlined the report, “Germany to be destroyed”. “The hate plan of Yalta.” It says: “Never shall this murder plan become a reality. Our wrath shall rise to a national frenzy. Ninety million Germans will cling to the soil of the Fatherland, and will smash, the most fiendish plan of all time by force of arms. The destructive madness of Germany’s enemies has now taken on its final shape.” The News Agency says: “The plan aims straight at the German people. Germany is to be beaten by brute force, and then cut in pieces. All German industry is to be carried off, and courts are to be established to organise the mass murder of German men, women and children.” HOSTAGES IN GERMANY LONDON, February 14. A correspondent of the’ “Daily Mail” in Berne stated: A special isolated prisoner of war camp was established in recent months in Germany in which are segregated important British and American prisoners or sons of men and women whom the Germans consider important in Britain and the United States. It seems that the purpose of the camp is to maintain a supply of possible hostages for when a collapse comes and Allied tribunals demand delivery of those listed as war criminals. The correspondent says. “The stern tone in which war criminals were mentioned in the Yalta communique is unlikely to make the position of these potential hostages any easier.” RUSSIAN DOMINANCE ■ ALLEGED. (Rec. 9.30) NEW YORK, Feb. 14. Tokio radio declared: The decisions of the Crimea Conference indicate the overwhelming Soviet influence there, and the absolute British and American submission thereto. This Russian dominance indicates that Britain is toboganning towards a downfall. The selection of San Francisco for a security conference might give a casual observer the impression that the United States war effort has been recognised, but, in reality, the problem 'of the so-called peace structure is not concerned with peace, but with the disposal of Europe. Russia has forced this in a most realisticl manner. ■ JAPANESE READY FOR PEACE! I (Rec. 1.20) NEWYORK, Feb. 14 Tokio radio commenting on the

Yalta conference said: The American plan for world domination is clearly recognisable: " It added that the only •way to re-establish world peace was the adoption of the just policy outlined by the Japanese Foreign Minister (Shigemitsu). Japan’s policy was not to reject any hand offering peace.
