Last week 17,972 tons of goods were railed through the Otira tunnel from Westland to Canterbury. The corresponding figures for 1944 and 1943 are 10,359 tons and 18,364 tons respectively. The m.v. Karu is discharging cargo from Wellington and on completion will load for return. The s.s. Omana, which is loading timber for the North Island, is expected to sail to-night. The s.s. Pakura, to load coal for Wellington, the s.s. Rnta to load coal for New 1 Plymouth, and the m.v. Storm, to load timber for Wellington, are expected tonight.
