Opera House Finally to-night; “International Squadron.” Next attraction (commences to-morrow Tues.): “Spawn of the North.” “SPAWN OF THE NORTH” A dramatic story of two men whose lifelong friendship is broken by an Arctic fued but who are finally reunited through the terrific sacrifice of one of them is told in “Spawn .of the North,” Parmount’s epic tale of romance, war and heroism in frontier Alaska, commencing at the Opera House to-morrow (Tuesday). George Raft, is the ne’er-do-well but captivating adventurer of the Northland, who flaunts every law of Alaska but gives up everything for his lifelong friend and the girl he loves. Henry. Fonda, plays Raft’s devoted friend and reluctant enemy, and Dorothy Lamour, in her biggest dramatic role to date, will be seen as the typical gallant woman of the North Country. The story; of “Spawn of the North” is based on the original novel by Barrett Willoughby, Alaska’s best-liked native writer. It tells what happens when war hits the fishing country of the Archipelago, with fishermen pitted in a life-and-death struggle with bold salmonpirates, and shows the fate of two lifelong friends who find themselves arrayed against each other. Romance in the persons of Miss Lamour, and Louise Platt, does as much as the salmon war to drive a wedge between Raft and Fonda. When Raft realises that his war has brought nothing but unhappiness and danger to the three people he loves best, he makes a great sacrifice to prove his real devotion to them.

Regent Theatre Finally to-night; “Much Too Shy.” Commencing to-morrow (Tuesday): “Secret Mission,” starring Hugh Williams and James Mason. A compelling and fast-moving spy drama, "Secret Mission,” commences at the Regent Theatre to-morrow (Tuesday). Anxious to discover the strength of German defences in occupied France, the British Intelligence Service sends four secret agents to reconnoitre the ground. The men are landed on the French coast by motor boat and manage to commence their investigations without arousing suspicion. With the help of French patriots they acquire forged credentials and ultimately gain admittance to German headquarters where they are able to obtain the information required. This is sent to the British authorities by means of the French “Underground,” and on a given date paratroops are able to decend on German Headquarters and strike a blow at vital key points. The Secret Agents comprise Major Garnett, Captain Raoul, Captain Red Gowan and Private Nobby Clark. The romantic element is catered for by a love interest between Major Garnett and Michelle, sister of Captain Raoul.
