Opera House Now Showing: “Sing a Jingle” and “Alibi.” Timely, tuneful and laugh-provok-ing “Sing, a Jingle”, with J’une Vincent (petite blonde beauty), Allan Jones (popular singing star), and Betty Kean (comedienne) in leading roles, is now showing at the Opera House. Allan Jones- essays a dual role, playing a famous concert singer who abandons fame and career, after being rejected for military service, to become a worker in a war plant under an assumed name. Only when a drive for funds for a battleship is threatened with failure does he emerge from obscurity. Songs, old and hew, include Believe Me If All Tho?e Endearing Young Charms; The Night We Called It a Day; Love, You Are My Music; and Let Me Call You Sweetheart; also Sing a Jingle; We’re The Janes That Make the Planes; Madame Mozelle; Beautiful Love; and Dear Old Girl. Boasting an extraordinarily powerful cast, headed by Margaret Lockwood, Hugh Sinclair, J'ames Mason and Raymond Lovell, the romantic crime melodrama “Alibi” is now showing at the Opera House.
A smoothly/told murder story that will keep your eyes on the screen all the time steals Helene, hostess at a Paris nignltapot, who is in debt• for rent, and When Professor Winkler, charlatan mind reader, asks her to say that he was* with her on a certain night, she consents for the sake of the money he offers. The abili clears him of a murder charge, but Inspector Galas still suspects; him, and Andre Laurant, his assistant, is detailed to break down her story. Andre falls in love with Helene and traps her into confessing that Winkler’s alibi was faked, and Winkler is apprehended. Regent Theatre 20th Century Fox present “The Fied Piper, Nevi! Shute’s mighty novel of to-day, which becomes the picture of the year. Starring Monty Woolley, Reddy McDowall and Anne Baxter, with Otto Preminger and J. Carrol Naish, it was produced and written for the screen by Minnally Johnson, and directed by Irving pichel. Out of these times, a thousand stories will be born, but none will be greater than this.
