WAITRESSES STOP
WELLINGTON RAILWAY REFRESHMENT ROOM UNDER-STAFFING CAUSES OVER-WORKING P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov 29 Waitresses at the Wellington railway station refreshment rooms ceased work for an hour to-day, and paid a call on the District Manpower Office with complaints of short-staff-ing at the refreshment room. Between noon and one o’clock all service in the dining room al the station ceased, although the cafeteria was still in operation. Their complaint was that a shortage of staff was making their 7 conditions of employment extremely difficult, and they asked the manpower official who interviewed them for some relief gy the provision of extra staff. They Were promised that the authorities would investigate the position. An official of the refreshment room stated, this afternoon that sickness. and absenteeism among certain members of the staff was the main cause of the shortage. The girls had returned to work at. one o’clock, and it was not anticipated that there would be any further difficulty.
