ITALIAN CABINET
RESIGNS OVER “PURGES”
LONDON, November 26. The Italian Government or b gnoi Bonomi has resigned. An statement said Cabinet resigned as t ic result of resolutions passed by the Government parties demanding a revision of the Governments policy alons their own party lines. p A Times' correspondent at says- The crisis had been latent ivi i long time. It arises from', differences between right and left wing -■»> and is centred around methods to u adopted for cleansing the administration of Fascists. Communist Undersecretary, Scoccimaro, has been an efficient controller of purging. Scoccimaro did not allow hims-elf to bt bound by the machinery laid down for sifting public services, but adopted the practice of smelling out Fascists on his own. This some , Conservative Ministers could not tolerate. The Ministry of the Interior, of which Signor Bonomi himself was titular head, had been controlled by a Socialist Under-Secretary Catevari, who was held responsible lor the serious decline in public security,, the recent revolt in Rome’s principal prison, and the general neglect of police services. T’here has been a loud demand that this Ministry should be placed in other hands. It is, expected a serious attempt will still be made to base a new Government on the Committee of National Liberation, since if the Ministry depends solely on either the right or lelt group, it will be compelled to assume dictatorial powers -,in order to maintain, itself, and the pretence of governing Italy democratically will be abandoned. Street demonstrations broke out in Rome to-day when Bonomi’s resignation was announced. Prince Umberto is? holding a series of consultations with the Bonomi Partv leaders and elder statesmen, including the 84-year ? old Orlando. The most probable conjecture is that Bonomi will be asked to form a new Government. (Rec. 8.10.) LONDON, Nov. 27 A basis for a solution of the Italian Cabinet crisis has been found. according to the Rome radio, lhe National Committee of Liberation, which represents the six main parties, after a lengthy conference on Sunday, approached the outgoing Premier, Signor Bonomi, and gave him a combined resolution which was passed at the conference. Reuter’s correspondent at Cairo says: “The resolution appears to be an overture to Signor Bonomi to resume the Premiership. According to a statement issued by the parties, Signor Bonomi approved the resolution.
