Mr. W. D. Taylor left last evening for the North Island.

Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Rawlins departed yesterday for Nelson.

The engagement is announced of Ngaio Patricia, second daughter ot Mr. and Mrs. J. Rhodes, Karoro, to John Rutledge, eldest son of Mr. and Mr S. Stewart, Greymouth.

Mr. F. N. Parnham, civil engineer, of Greymouth, leaves early next month for Christchurch, where he has received an appointment on the engineering staff ot the Canterbury Catchment Board.

Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Denton or Bluff arrived yesterday on a visit to Greymouth and are the guests or Mr. and Mrs. G. Preston, Arney Street.

The funeral of Mrs. Margaret Kidd of Cobden took place at Karoro Cemetery. Requiem Mass at St. Patrick’s Church was celebrated by Rev. Father A. Gregory, who also conducted the graveside service.

Warrant-Officer R. J. Naylor, of Westport, who ■ recently returned from the Middle East after four years’ service, and whose wedding will take place on Saturday next, is at present the guest of Mr and Mrs Percy Greenwood, Albert Terrace.

Lt. Colonel. A. H. Evenden, son of Mrs. E. Evenden, Greymouth, will be .nvested with the 0.8. E. at an investiture at Christchurch this evening. Mrs. Evenden left yesterday moring for Christchurch, to be present at the ceremony. She was accompanied by Mrs. F. G. B. Evenden.

Warrant-Officer Edgar M. .Nilsen, of Kaikoura, Avho recently returned from the Middle East, has arrived in Greymouth, and will officiate as best man at the Naylor-Greenwood wedding next Saturday. Warrant-Officer ding next Saturday. Sergeant-Major Nilsen is the guest of Mr and Mrs Greenwood.

Mr. S. Frickleton, V. C., formerly of Blackball has been appointed house manager of the Wellington R.S.A.’s remodelled premises in Victoria Street and has taken up his new duties. On returning to civil life after the last war Mr. Frickleton was for a good many years associated with the motor industry in Wellington. More recently he has been engaged in farming at Waikanae. On the occasion of the Coronation in 1937 he was a member of the New Zealand Contingent which went to England. Always keenly interested in R.S.A.. affairs, he was connected with the Kilbirnie auxiliary from its inception (for some time as president) until he transferred to Lower Hutt.

Senior Detective H. E. Knight, who has been stationed at Grey,mouth for over ten years, leaves to-day for Nelson, where he will take up duties as Senior-Sergeant; He was farewelled yesterday afternoon by the members of the Police Force, there being present representatives from all district offices, including Reefton, Otira and Ross. On behalf of those present, Inspector G. H. Lambert made the presentation of an envelope of notes, referring to the value of Detective Knight’s services to the district. Senior-Sergeant G. H. L. Holt and other officers also expressed their appreciation of the guest’s and their regret at his departure. Detective Knight suitably replied.

Flying Officer Les. Martyn, son of Mrs. and the lat e Mr. E. Martyn, of Murray Street, Greymouth, has been reported missing on air operations. Born at Kumara 37 years ago, Flying Officer Martyn was educated at Kumara and at the Greymouth Technical High School. He joined the Post and Telegraph Department at Kumara and also served at Hokitika, Waimate, Wellington and Christchurch, enlisting at Christchurch three years ago. He has been overseas for two years. Flying Officer Martyn, who was a West Coast Rugby representative has five brothers, Edward (Kumara), Alfred (Greymouth), William (Nelson? George (Cobden), and Leo (2nd. N.Z.E.F. in Italy), and four sisters, Mesdames W. Ward (Christchurch), S. Stewart (Greymouth), H. Dowling (Kaiata), and Miss Laura Martyn (Christchurch).
