Opera House NOW SHOWING: “Swing Fever” and “The Strange Death of Adolf Hitler.” “SWING FEVER” Orchestra leader Kay Kyser takes I th a field as a comedian with beauti--1 ful Marilyn Maxwell as his leading lady in a combination of rhythm, romance and riot in the latest M.G.M. picture, “Swing Fever,” now showing at the Opera House with Willi.am Gargan, Nat Pendleton and Lena Horne in featured roles. When Gargan gets into a fistic encounter with a rival manager, Kay puts his gift to work to halt the encounter. Gargan thereupon gets the idea to use him to insure the result of his fighter’s next battle. To win Kay’s support, Gargan prevails upon Marilyn Maxwell to make believe she is in love with him. The only trouble is that she actually does fall in love with him and he with her, which leaves William Gargan out in the cold at the finale, but the Championship belt leaves him quite contented. “THE STRANGE DEATH OF ADOLF HITLER.” It could be true. The movie explanation of those mysterious rumours and sinister whisperings which seep out of Nazi Germany, seems io be founded on credible information. But true or not “The Strange Death of Adolf Hitler, which is now showing at the Opera House, is

one of the most timely and provocative pictures to reach the screen since Der Fuehrer plunged the world into darkness. Every New Zealander has dreamed of ways and means to dispose of th e Munich paper hanger. Every soldier, sailor, and airman prays that it will be his opportunity to bring about the death of Adolf Hitler. The world was electrified when the news flash about Mussolini’s fade-out hit the air . . . but what about Hitler? Where is he? Why did no one see him for months? Does the hush-hush from inside the Reich have a deep, sinister meaning f Her? is drama too stark mad to be true Yet every foot comes from the reports the Reich has tried to hush. Regent Theatre Now Showing: Marriage on Ice.” Before writing any. comments on the feature for this week-end I would particularly like to mention this week’s March of Time and that is “Youth in Crisis.” Never before has a short been so well illustrated than this featurette in viewing the influence of war and its consequences on the younger generation. . Our feature for this week-end is a delightful story entitled “Marriage on Ice.” Twentieth Century Fox present Sonja Henie and John Payne with Jack Oakie. Never before m her brilliant career has Sonja performed such breath-taking whirls- and spins on ice as she does in her latest screen

hit. John is the reluctant marine who falls easy prey, to Sonja’s fair charms despite the interference of Jack Oakie his- buffooning pal. A riot of new tunes are .introduced by Sammy Haye and his orchestra with songs—‘‘You Can’t Say No To A Soldier,” “Lets Bring New Glory To Old Glory”, “Lover’s Knot” and “I Like a Military Tune”. Directed by Bruce Humberstone and produced by William Le Barron, you are assured of a grand skylarking musical extravaganza and its Skealdsogulegur!
