Licensing of Bookmakers M.P. REQUESTS INQUIRY. P.A. WELLINGTON, November 22. In the House this afternoon Mr R. McKeen (Govt., Wellington South) in a notice of a question, addressed to the Minister of Internal Affairs, asked: Whether the Minister would undertake to set up a Royal CommiS’sion to enquire into, and report on, the present operation of the gaming laws of the Dominion with a view to enabling the Government completely to overhaul the gaming laws so as to provide necessary facilities for racing supporters t-o lay: beta with legitimate persons, who would be registered for that purpose. .

Extra Racing Meetings

ALLOCATIONS AND PERMITS MADE. P.A. WELLINGTON, November 22. With the approval of the Minister of Internal Affairs, an Executive Subcommittee of the New Zealand Racing Conference has allocated the 12 additional racing permits granted by the Wai- Cabinet for the current season. The five permits for patriotic meetings have been granted to the Waikato, Wanganui, Wellington, Canterbury, and Southland Clubs. The seven ordinary permits have been allocated as follows Whangarei Racing Club. Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club (to be conducted as a benefit meeting for all of the totalisator clubs in the Hawke’s Bay metropolitan district). Egmont, Opunake and Stratford Clubs combined, the venue to be mutually agreed upon. Masterton Racing Club, in conjunction with the Carterton Racing Club (at Masterton). Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club, in conjunction with the Marton Jockey Club (at Marton). South Canterbury Jockey Club. Dunedin Jockey Club. The Clubs will apply to the Conference for dates on which to use the permits allocated to them.
