A motion of condolence uzith the family of the late Mr T. Dumbleton, ex-fireman and caretaker, was carried in silence at a meeting yesterday of the Grej' 4 Fire. Board.

Dr. K. Kent-Koplowitz, who has been medical practitioner at Brunner for the past few years, is leaving shortly, to take up a practice at New Lynn, Auckland. His successor at Brunner will be Dr Heinrich Schmidt, who was trained in Vienna, and who is* expected to arrive here this week. Dr. Kent’s ability earned him the respect of the district, where his departure will be regretted.
The death occurred yesterday at Christchurch after a short illness, of Mrs. Maureen Margaret Manera, of Ruatapu, at the age of 31 years. The late Mrs. Manera was born, at Hokitika. She leaves besides her husband, Mr. William Manera, four young children: also her mother, Mrs. M Roberts (Hampden Street, Hokitika), and three sisters, Anne (Nelson), Martha and Margaret (Hokitika), and also seven brothers, William (Auckland). Leo (N.Z.E.F., Middle East). Philip (St. Bede’s College. Christchurch), Richard (Kumara), and Thomas, Roy and Raymond (Hokitika). , Another, brother, James, was killed in action in October, 1942 in the Battle of El Alamein. The funeral will take place to-mor-row morning at Hokitika Cemetery.
