; Opera House Finally To-night: ‘‘Bringing up Baby.” Next Attraction (Commencing Tomorrow, Friday): ‘‘The Big Street” .-■nd ‘‘You’re a Lucky Feilow Mr Smith”. , One of the most powerful stories of love and sacrifice ever filmed comes to the screen of the Opera House tomorrow (Friday) in RKO Radio’s “The Big Street”, an adaptation of the Damon Runyon story, “Little Pinks”, produced by the author. Convincing characters from New York’s Broadway are portrayed by an outstanding cast of fifty players, with Henry Fonda and Lucille' Ball starI red. Ozzie Nelson and his orchestra are featured in some of the scenes, notably the closing sequences where Miss Ball dances to her death in the arms of Hendy Fonda, whose preat love she has at last come to appreciate. One of the season’s happiest comedy-dramas, “You’re a Lucky Fellow Mr Smith” commences at the Opera House to-morrow (Friday). Paced by a most pleasing selection j of popular songs, the picture speeds . lightheartedly, along its romantic I course. Allan Jones and Evelyn An- I kers are co-starred. A noteworthy | cast features Billie Eurke, David j Bruce, Patsy O’Connor. Luis Alberni, I Stanley Clements and The King’s { Men. The story has Miss Ankers in I the role of a prospective heiress who , must marry before a certain date to 1 inherit a fortune. A young sister, I portrayed by Miss O’Connor, provides I obstacles. Instead of marrying the ! man she has chosen, the potential heiress is compelled to wed an absolute stranger. Jones is in the latter part. It is a supremely satisfactory climax. Filmed in technicolour, ' “Happy Go Lucky” is rich in catchy tunes, comedy and dancing. The > story concerns a cabaret singer, Mary Martin, who spends her savings j on an heiress pose on the chance of snaring a rich husband. Powell is ' the lazy and irresponsible beach- • comber who, with the aid of Eddie • Bracken and ‘Betty Hutton support ( her gold-digging campaign. Rudy t Vallee is their objective, playing a dry and unemotional but likeable t playboy who takes a long time to 1 respond to feminine wiles. The sett- f ing is on board ship, and in a South [ American port, giving ample oppor- r tunity for tuneful singing and gor- f geous colour. Betty Hutton and Ed- I die Bracken make a splendid comedy t team, .and the dancing of the former if- said to equal, if not excel her per- f formance in “The Fleet’s In.” k
