Burke and B. Rodgers (Christl church). The death of Mr Joseph Patrick Martin occurred suddenly at Auckland last week. A son of the late Mr and Mrs Peter Martin, of Greymouth, deceased was on the staff of the Railways Department on the West Coast for many years, being stationmaster at Rewanui, and shipping and inward goods clerk at Greymouth. He is survived by three sisters, Mesdames Blackmore (Nelson Creek), Nugent (Newmarket, Auckland) and Kernick , (Christchurch, and two brothers, William (Wellington) and Peter (Nelson Creek).

The death occurred suddenly last night at Wellington, of Mr J. J. W. Pollard (the well-known theatrical Pollard (the well-known threatrical entrepreneur, who for many _ years conducted the Opera House pictures in Greymouth). The late Mr J. J. W. Pollard left the position of secretary to the South Island Travel Association early in the war to enter the office of Director of Publicity at Parliament Buildings, Wellington. He underwent a serious operation about a year ago, but made a good recovery, and was at work until Tuesday evening. He was a native of Melbourne and was 56 years of ,age. Formerly he was a journalist and served oh several newspapers.—P.A.

The death occurred yesterday at Christchurch of Mr. Otto Louis Ballin, aged 55, Director of Ballins Breweries., N.Z. Ltd., and well-known, throughout the business community. He supported many charities, botn private and public. He served in the last war in France and Belgium, and on his return took a keen interest in the Christchurch Forensic Club, or which he was an active member at the time of his death. In his earlier 1 years Mr. Ballin' was a keen amateur boxer, and took part in amateur contests in Christchurch and other parts of New Zealand. Swimming was also one of his hobbies. He is survived by his wife and a small daughter. .He was a son of the late B. BaL lin, and is a brother of Mr. H. J. Ballin. He is also survived by four sisters, Mesdames E. Boulton, M. Wilks, ana H. E. Crust (Christchurch), & I Caro (Palmerston North).—Press Assn.

Mr E. N. G. Poulton, C.8.E., Private Secretary to the Minister of Internal Affairs, died at Wellington on Monday; night, states a Press Association message. He was aged 63. During his long career in the Public Service Mr Poulton served with 11 different New. Zealand Governments, and held the distinction of being Private Secretary to a record number of Ministers of the Crown. He was born in Wellington, and was educated there; He joined the literary staff of the “Evening Post” in 1898, and was later with the “New Zealand Herald” and the “New Zealand Times”. He was appointed Private Secretary in 1902. He accompanied Mr Findlay to - * the coronation of King George V, and attended the Imperial Conference in--1911. He received th e C.B'.E. in 1938. He leaves his wife and four sons, two of whom are in the forces. There are four grandchildren.
