lOur Own Corresnonoentj. WESTPORT Sept. 25 The Kaimai sailed on Saturday for Wellington. The Kiwitea, Kartigi, Kaimiro and Wingatui arrived yesterday and are loading coal for the North Island. Hon. W. H. Mclntyre left to-day for Wellington. Mr D. Gillespie has returned from North Auckland. Mr W. A. Craddock has returned from Wellington. Investments in the Victory, Loan on Saturday brought the Westport total to £31,664, and the toal for the district to £45,924. The first rounds of the Club championships were played at the Kawatiri golf course over the week-end. A strong south-westerly wind made conditions tricky. In the ladies’ section results of games played were: Senior: Mrs J. Jones beat Mrs A. Morley 2 and 1; Mrs W. T. Slee beat Mrs Fair 3 and 2; Mrs C. Walker beat Mrs Nahr 3 and 2; Miss H. Risk defeated Mrs D. Woodward 4 and 3. Intermediate: Miss J. Marr beat Mrs Playsted 4 and 3; and Mrs A. Scadden beat Miss F. Hay-MacKenzie 1 up. Fair Cup: Mrs Walker beat Mrs Scadden; and Mrs Slee beat Mrs Morley. . Men’s Senior Championship: N. Nottle won by default from C. S'chadick; D. Francis beat H. Lovell 6 and 5; T. Caldwell beat C. Petersen 2 and 1; R. Boys beat J. Queripel 7 and 5. Intermediate: T. Broker beat C. Davies 7 and 5; E. H. Phibbs beat H. Elly 2 and 1; R. Davies beat J’. Brown 2 and 1. Junior: W. Farr beat N. Daly-5 and 4; F. Woodward beat J. Cray 2 up; W. Kennedy beat J. Phibbs 3 and 2; and T. Tebay won by default from B. Falconer. A Stableford bogey played on Saturday was won by W. Farr with 35 points. Sergeant R. T. Simonsen has returned after four years service m the Middle East.
Mr. J. Woodward, suffered an in--jury to his left eye during casting operations at the Westport Foundry. Molten metal which was being poured into a ladle, splashed and some of the metal entered his eye. Pie was admitted to the hospital. The roll number at the Westport Technical High School at the commencement- of the term (September 5) was 146. according to the report of the Pricipal, Mr. J. Metson, who stated the attendance had been affected by extremely cold and wet weather and by sickness. The Buller Rugby Union has accepted the West Coast invitation for the Buller representatives to play West Coast at Greymouth on Saturday next. For the four week period ended September 16, 6080 tons of coal from the Westport district mines were railed through the Buller Gorge to the East Coast, compared with 6,706 tons in the preceding four weeks.
