DENNISTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent!. Mr J. McArthur, Inspector of Mmes, was a visitor during the week. Mrs Harley, of Burnetts Face, was admitted to the Buller Hospital on Wednesday, Mrs J. Allan, accompanied by her daughter. Miss B. Allan, and her son, Master G. Allan, left on Wednesday for Wellington, where they will in future reside. A farewell social, was tendered to Mr J'. Higgins by the local Youth .Organisation on Wednesday evening. Dancing was indulged in, Mrs Preston being pianist,, and Mr A. Cockburn M.C. A dainty supper was served. .Mr J. Martin (President) presented the guest with a gift of money, expressing the good wishes of members. Mr Higgins, who suitably, replied, will shortly leave the district to take up residence in Wellington. The Dqnniston Women’s Institute held their eighth birthday party in the R.S.A. rooms on Monday. Visitors from Stockton, Millerton, Hector and Marshallvale were welcomed by Mrs E. Ware (president). Mrs Woods (Millerton) read the aspirations. The roll call “Sing or Recite”, was answered by the president of ea’ch Institute, songs being sung of most countries. A “lucky seat” was won by) Mrs Cooper (Millerton). Mrs Strang and Mrs S. Lewis won a statu e barn dance, and Mrs Hawes and partner a “lucky spot”. Mrs Anderson and Mrs Bradley excelled themselves in two duets, their items being much appreciated. A dainty supper wa's served by the committee. Mrs E. Ward donated a beautiful iced cake. Mrs Braggins, a foundation member, cut the cake. After supper, Mrs G. Nelson presented Mesdames E. Ward, S'. Lewis and R. Gardner with gifts from the Denniston members for services rendered during the year. A song guessing competition was a feature. Mesdames Chapman, Kelly) Anderson, Bradley, Smith, Braggins, Lewis, Nelson, Blake, Prentice, Gardner, Blake and J. Chapman dressed to represent various songs, and visitors guessed the names. Mrs Philp (Seddonville) and Mrs Meek (Marsha'llvale) were the winners.
