OWNERSHIP OF LAKE BED WELLINGTON, Sept. 21. The Native Appellate Court has delivered a unanimous judgment involving the ownership of the bed of Lake Waikaremoana. The case dates back to 1916, when it was partly heard by the District Judge, Mr R. N. Jones, in Gisborne. When lie was made Chief. Judge, the case was adjudicated upon by Judge Gilfedder, who found for the Maoris in June, 1918. Appeals against that judgment hung fire. The case at length came before the Native Appellate Court sitting at Wellington in March last, and the Court assembled again at Wellington this week, when it gave judgment in favour of the Maori ownership of the area. The only appeal which can be made against this judgment could be- one to the Privy Council. “MAN AND HIS WORLD.” CAMBRIDGE, September 21. Canon W. Chandler, Anglican Vicar, here, to-day, received from the pub-. Ushers of Dr. Mainwaring’s book “Man and His World” a reply in a query as to whether any controversy was raging in England, and also whether the book wa's being used intensively in schools. The reply to Canon Chandler’s query stated: “Man and His World” selling well here. Have no knowledge of any controversy in England or elsewhere. (signed) George Phillip.
