BOXING PARS

(BY “LEFT HOOK”) An innovation to-morrow will be the installation of two judges, with the referee throwing a casting vote in, the event of dissension among the judiciaries. This brings Greymouth in line with the rest of the Dominion, and though refereeing generally on the West Coast has been fair, the decision of the Association should satisfy ail sceptics. The apearanCe to-morrow of nine ..Wellington boxers who will engage the best of our local lads, is being looked forward to with interest. The Wellington team is a first class one, containing as it does such good boys as D. Martin, E. Williams, J. Parata and Noel Woods. Martin is considered by good judges to be the best light-heavy weight in the North Island, an c ] he will put Norman Ross to a very severe test. Ross, however, is fit and well, is not awed by Martin’s reputation. This bout should be an epic. The bout, between George Bowman and E. Williams should be a gem. Williams is reputed to be fast, tough and game. He wades in right from the start and .as Bowman is not averse to mixing it, there should be thrills galore. Many fans will be keen to see how “Chappie’ ’Mundy shapes after a year’s spell. Pie hasn’t been idle and will entei - the ring fit to give Parata the fight of his life. Parata is a Maori boy, who can punch fast and hard. Wellington fans think highly of him, and feel confident he will win, but he has the job ahead of him to defeat “Chappie.”

Noel Woods won the light weight division at the recent Wellington championships. He i.s a decided acquisition to any team, and his appearance will be looked forward to with keen interest. He is due to meet J. Hargreaves, who is probably the hardest puncher for his weight on the Coast. If Woods tries 'to trade them with this boy, he may come off second best. Hargreaves will let him know he has been in the ring.

Teddy Shearn has a big renutation in Wellington; in fact some keen judges consider he is the one boy who might defeat B. Goslin, the sensation of the year in the North Island.

He will face Jimmy Bodd" who. if he chooses to, can fight with the best of them. Eoddy lias risen to the occasion when required, and if in the mood next Friday’will nrovide Mr. Shearn with a very unpleasant surprise. Carl Nelson, of Wellington, is coming down with the team. He is a weight-lifter and will give a demonstration of feats of strength. He' can tear a' three-inch book into halves and quarters, and can perform a similar operation on a pack of cards. Carl weighs 10.11 only, but has lifted 1871 lbs. with one hand. P. Touhy won the bantam division at the Wellington championships. He is highly spoken of, and is down to meet S. Cowan, who is fast, strong and tough. Cowan may give Touhy a decided shock.

George Muir is training hard for his return bout with Doug Rollinson, which will take place in Auckland on October 2. George will prove once and for all that he is Rollinson’s master, or I can’t read them right. He is much improved now, and will keep them all busy, including Strickland.
