WAIUTA NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent) Mr and Mrs L. East were weekend visitors to Waiuta as the guests of Mr and Mrs Vai LeathwicH, Mr D. Briscoe who was injured at the Blackwater mines during last week, and was .admitted to the Reefton Hospital, has been discharged and is making satisfactory progress. Miss Reece Harris, who has been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs W. G. Harris, has returned to Christchurch. Mr Jim Conway, who is an inmate of the Reefton Hospital, is making good progress. . Mrs A. Stephens who visited Greymouth last week, has returned. A kitchen evening! was tendered to Miss Reece Harris at the Institute Hall. Several vocal items were rendered, .and music for dancing was supplied by Mrs R. Robertson while Mr K. Rodden had charge of the floor. Many useful gifts were received for which Mr W. Gidley returned thanks of behalf of Miss Harris. Occasion was also taken to celebrate M'ss Harris’s 21st birthday. the toast being drunk with musical honours. As in other parts of the West Coast heavy rain has fallen here since Thursday last. A public meeting is to be held in the Miners’ Hall on Saturday at 2.30 p.m. in connection with the Victory Loan. Mr George Williams, member of the County Council will preside, and the meeting will be addressed by Messrs F. A. Kitchingham (Mayor of Greymouth) and F. Boustridge. Dancers are reminded that a grand R<.SA. long night dance is to be held here on Saturday. September 30.
