RELEASE SOUGHT
IMPRISONED U.S. EMBASSY OFFICIAL WASHINGTON, Sept. 11. Counsel for Mrs Ann Kent, mother of Tyler Kent, a former attache to the United States Embassy at London (who was imprisoned in Britain, following evidence of his securing confidential documents and leakage of information to the enemy) has filer] a motion for a writ of mandamus, requiring President Roosevelt to demand the release of Tyler Kent. Counsel said that if a writ were granted, and the demand were unreasonably delayed, the President would be required personally to make Kent’s conviction by a British court legal. Mrs Kent told reporters that she had been in constant communication with her son since his imprisonment. He told her that he believed that a smear campaign had been carried on against him by State Department officials, an r ] that it was launched because they fear the facts.
